So, whether you’re planning, applying, or waiting for admission, here are answers to some frequently asked questions that have come our way, to help you prepare and ease any worries you may have.

  • I’d like to apply for a research programme or PhD, where do I start? 

Prior to applying, you need to have consulted with a potential supervisor at NUI Galway. To help find a supervisor and/or a PhD project, a very helpful resource is our online Find a Supervisor/PhD project portal, so that’s a great starting point. The Research Application Process is also stepped out in our prospectus, see Pages 305–311 of our online PDF.

  • Are grants available for postgrad study? 

SUSI is the Irish grants authority. Their website has all detail on how to apply, and also has an Eligibility Reckoner you can use, to see if you’re likely to receive grant-aid. 


  • Where can I find scholarships information? 

Our Scholarships Website lists detail of postgraduate scholarships, including our flagship Taught Masters Scholarship, the Hardiman Research Scholarship, and our scholarships for international students.
