Taught Master’s Scholarship Scheme
At NUI Galway we are keen to ensure that the brightest and most committed students progress to postgraduate study. Your excellence is rewarded, via our Postgraduate Scholarships Scheme for full-time taught masters students. Scholarships are worth €1,500 per student. Our Postgraduate Scholarships are designed to reward excellent students who have performed exceptionally well in their undergraduate studies. Scholarships will be awarded to students who:

  • Have been accepted on to full-time taught Masters programmes
  • Have a First Class Honours undergraduate degree

The Scheme usually opens to accept applications in April annually, and normally the closing date for applications runs into August. This website will have all the details, including current scholarship criteria. (Postgraduate Admissions administer these scholarships, you can email them at postgradadmissions@nuigalway.ie.)

Sinead Shaughnessy, pictured above (in The Quadrangle, at NUI Galway), is a recent scholarship recipient. She says: “The postgraduate scholarship allowed me to further my studies and enhance my future career prospects. It incentivised me to work hard throughout my undergraduate degree to achieve a First Class Honours degree. I am currently studying a MSc in Human Resource Management. This masters qualification will give me a distinct edge in the industry when applying for jobs.’’

Our generous €1,500 scholarship can certainly motivate you to get that top-class undergraduate degree—some students have told us they “crunched the numbers’’, and figured out it was more cost-effective not to work part-time in their final year, and instead concentrate on their studies to get that 1:1 degree, and attain the scholarship. It was worth more to them than what they would have earned in their part-time job! So that’s something else to consider. And it means you come out with an excellent undergraduate degree as well—a real benefit to your resumé.
